Last Call for 2024: 7 Running Races You Can Still Enter
As we head towards the backend of 2024, we're putting a spotlight on some of the events that you can still enter and run in for the remainder of 2024.
In putting together this list of events, we need to establish some criteria. As you're probably aware, great running events around the world are now at your fingertips. Any event, any distance, any terrain. It's all there for you.
With some many great events on the running calendar, it's difficult for us to pluck out just a handful to showcase.
However, with the popularity of running sky high, events often sell out well before race date.
The era of rocking up at an event on race day to register is almost gone.
Nowadays, some events require registration up to 12 months in advance.
But don't fear. We got you.
If you're wanting to enter a race still in 2024 we've compiled a great list.
Here's our criteria:
- Registration must still be available (not sold out)
- We're highlighting one race in each state in Australia
- Not a major event or race (e.g Melb Mara, Syd Mara etc).
- A great community-driven event
Now, the only location we have left out here is the NT. The reason is the events for the rest of 2024 are fairly adhoc. If you're interested in running 2km in a Santa costume, there's that. It is for a good cause so if you'd like more details tap here.
Without further ado, let's get stuck in.
Stromlo Running Festival – ACT
Set for 16-17 November 2024, the Stromlo Running Festival is a premier trail running event in Canberra, hosted at Stromlo Forest Park. Stromlo Running Festival offers a great opportunity to experience one of Canberra’s most-loved events. Don’t miss your chance to register before it sells out!

Point to Pinnacle – Tasmania
Dubbed the “world’s toughest half marathon”, the Point to Pinnacle is an iconic Tasmanian event, taking place on Sunday, 17 November 2024.
This challenging race starts at the waterfront in Hobart and climbs over 1,270 meters to the summit of Mount Wellington, spanning a distance of 21.1km. Okay, so there is a reason they call it the world's toughest half-mara.
The stunning, but grueling, course offers participants sweeping views of Hobart, the Derwent River, and beyond as they ascend toward the pinnacle.
If you're looking for something a little more low-key, there’s also a 10km Point to Pub event that finishes at the historic Fern Tree Tavern for those seeking a shorter, yet still challenging, course.
Registration fees for the half marathon are around $130 per person, with the Point to Pub entry priced at $80. The event usually sees about 3,000 participants from around Australia and the world.
Entries are still available, and this would be a terrific event to be a part of.
Naracoorte Cave Run – South Australia
For those seeking a unique trail running experience in South Australia, the Naracoorte Cave Run is an unforgettable event. Taking place on Nov 2nd 2024, this race is set in the stunning surrounds of the Naracoorte Caves National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site renowned for its fossil history and captivating cave formations.
The event offers several race distances, including a 5km, 10km, and 21.1km half marathon PLUS the newly introduced marathon, providing an option for runners of all levels.
The course winds through the park’s natural trails, offering participants breathtaking views of the limestone caves and bushland. This will be a tight-knit race, maintaining an intimate and community-driven atmosphere.
If I were in SA and seeking something fun and different, this would be my pick of the bunch.
