Run Review, Runmas & Trail Recommendation
Hey guys!
Hope you've had a great week so far!
On the weekend we had the pleasure of activating at the 2XU Wellness Run in St Kilda.
Like a lot of the larger events, it's over two days, allowing for bib collection on the Saturday, food, stalls etc.
The weather forecast for the weekend had been truly ominous all week. 20-40mm of rain, and plenty of wind.
I woke up Saturday morning wondering whether we'd even be able to bump-in today. It was wet, muddy and I was worried our marquee would end up floating alongside the Spirit of Tasmania.
We managed to get setup, and lock it down.
But the Saturday was most definitely a washout.
All day Saturday I was just praying to the running gods that the tent would be in one-piece, and the products and displays stay dry.
Roll in 4.30am Sunday morning and it's dry as a bone. You beauty.
A big shoutout to the organisers of the Wellness Run, O2 Events, a really professional group who were so helpful in ensuring our marquee stayed strong and everything dry.
There's something about race morning that you can't beat.
There's something in the air.
Perhaps a bit of nervousness, combined with the smell of fresh grass and freshly brewed coffee.
It's a beautiful thing.
I have to say, after attending around 15 events this year, this was one well-organised event. It might sound really stupid to some, but actually having enough toilets for runners is a rare sight.
The event had a great community/village atmosphere, which is what you want as a spectator, runner and exhibitor. This was a top display of how to create a great vibe for everyone involved.
I've written a review of the event if you're interested in running it next year. You can read it here.
If you are keen to run it next year, it's a good idea to sign up for notifications, as this year was a sell-out!
⛰️ Trail Recommendations
A couple of weeks ago I put a call out to the Runly community to get some recommendations for trail races across Australia.
One thing that became obvious to me quickly based on the responses, is that Australia is so lucky to have so many outstanding races and runs. The recommendations were varied and hit every corner of the country.
To be honest, there were not huge standouts, it was pretty even across the board, but a handful of races did stand out:
- Two Bays Trail Run (VIC)
- Blackall 100 (QLD)
- Heysen 105 (SA)
- Summit Shoalhaven (NSW)
🎅 RUNMAS
This week we launched our RUNMAS campaign! It's a bit of fun, offering some epic deals so that you can sleigh your goals, or get that runner in your life something they'll really love.
That's all for this week.
Run well,
Robbie
