What is the City-Bay Fun Run?

In its upcoming 50th-year milestone, the City-Bay Fun Run has become an integral part of South Australia’s culture running and sporting culture. It’s more than just a race; it’s a tradition and a community celebration.

This year, get involved on on Sunday, September 15th, as the event commemorates the 50th running of South Australia’s most cherished race! Rally your mates as the event is aiming to reach 50,000 participants this year!

Event Details

Date: Sunday, September 15, 2024
Start Times:

  • 12km Event: Starts at 8:00 AM
  • 6km Event: Starts at 8:30 AM
  • 3km Event: Starts at 10:00 AM
  • Half-Marathon: Starts at 6:00 AM

It's an early start for the City-Bay half-marathon, runners will start from Colley Terrace in Glenelg at 6:00 AM, heading towards the city along the southern side of Anzac Highway. The route continues with a left turn onto Morphett Street, then proceeds along Sturt Street, eventually merging with the 12km course on King William Street.

Prizes and Awards

Prizes are awarded in various categories including:

  • Overall winners (male and female)
  • Age group categories
  • Best dressed (individual and team)
  • Largest team
  • Highest fundraising individual and team

Additionally, all participants receive a finisher's medal and a race pack with various goodies from sponsors.

Getting There and Parking

Public Transport

Registering for the City-Bay Fun Run and wearing your race number on your clothing allows you FREE transport on the Glenelg Bay Tram, from the City to Glenelg and back. After the race, you will be able to access free public transport from Wigley Reserve back into the city.

Parking

Limited parking is available at designated areas in Adelaide City and Glenelg. It is advisable to use public transport due to road closures and the high number of participants.

Location and Course Information

Finish Location

All events finish at Glenelg Beach, where participants can enjoy the post-race festivities, including food stalls, live entertainment, and the awards ceremony.

Race Number Bib Collection

If you opted to collect your race number bib, please print your confirmation email and bring it with you to one of the following locations and times:

  • Mile End Athletics Stadium:

    • Monday, September 2nd: 10am-3pm
    • Tuesday, September 3rd: 10am-3pm

  • City Location (TBA):

    • Thursday, September 12th: 12:30pm-6:00pm
    • Friday, September 13th: 8:00am-9:00pm
    • Saturday, September 14th: 8:00am-11:00am

Note: Race numbers cannot be collected on the day of the race.

Tips for Participants

  1. Training: Start your training early. Incorporate both long runs and interval training to build stamina and speed.

  2. Hydration and Nutrition: Stay hydrated in the days leading up to the race and eat a balanced meal the night before. Avoid heavy, greasy foods.

  3. Race Day Essentials: Wear comfortable running shoes and weather-appropriate clothing. Don’t forget your race bib and timing chip.

  4. Arrival Time: Arrive at least an hour before your start time to allow for warm-up and to find your starting area.

  5. Pace Yourself: Start at a comfortable pace and gradually increase it. Remember, it’s a fun run, so enjoy the experience and the scenic route.

Post-Race Festivities

After crossing the finish line, participants can enjoy a range of activities at the Event Village

  • Food and Drink Stalls: Sample local delicacies and refreshing beverages.
  • Live Entertainment: Enjoy music and performances from local artists.
  • Running Brands: There will be some exciting running products to try and buy (Runly has applied for a spot at the Village).
  • Award Ceremony: Cheer on the winners and celebrate the community spirit.

Charity

The City-Bay Fun Run Committee Inc. is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to raising funds to support athletics in South Australia. The profits from the event assist athletes and clubs within the athletics community. Local service clubs and the athletic community are supported with donations based on the amount of volunteer help they provide both on race day and for pre-race administration. The trust fund established by the committee manages requests from the athletic community, previously sponsoring promising athletes to the Olympics and purchasing new equipment for clubs.
