Knee surgery update, pink vests, final stock + hoodies

Hey Jay!

Hope you're having a ripper week.
I always wonder whether I should start these founder updates by introducing who I am - because our community is growing quickly.

If you're new here, my name is Robbie.

I'm the founder of Runly.

Every Thursday I send out this email to give you an honest insight into what's happening at Runly, behind the scenes and everything in-between.

Let's crack in.

KNEE SURGERY UPDATE

Last week in the newsletter I shared that I would be having surgery on my knee this week.

It's been a real 'pain' for two years.

Firstly, I just want to thank everyone who reached out after that update to wish me good luck, but also, those people who shared their stories with me.

At a guess, I'd say I had over 50 emails from the Runly community.

Many of whom shared similar stories of not being able to get to the bottom of their injuries after so many scans and consultations.

So I went in on Tuesday.

My anaesthetist was a great guy - he's basically the one that keeps you asleep.

This is not my first rodeo. I've had many surgeries in my time.

I was chatting away with old mate while they were getting everything ready. We were talking about running, Runly, and cycling - because he had entered into an event next month.

We were on a roll and getting on like a house on fire. I almost forgot I was about to go under for surgery, even though I was laying on a thin hospital bed in a sterile operating room.

But for some reason, I felt like they had the mask on me for ages. I was ever so slowly drifting away.

It was not as I had experienced previously.

Usually you're out in a matter of seconds.

This must have been three minutes.

I could feel myself drifting off finally, and in an attempt to keep the conversation going as my eyes started to close, I embarrassingly blurted out:

"So any interesting dinner plans tonight?"

WHAT?

And I drifted off.

I woke up a couple of hours later thinking, bloody hell. Why did I say that.

The ten medical staff in the room must have been in hysterics as I laid there asleep with a half-shaven leg.

Oh well.

I'm sure they've heard weirder things from other patients with the laughing gas on.

Despite my embarrassing antics under the laughing gas, the surgery went well.

I mentioned last week that I had nine scans before this op.

NINE.

And in true stye, what they found did not show on any of the scans. The MRI's, the X-Rays, the CT's nor the ultrasound.

I knew my cartilage was worn out.

But they also found a large split in the cartilage.

Ouch.

So what was meant to be a little look and cleanup turned into a bigger procedure - almost two hours under.

They cleared away as much damaged cartilage as they could, as well as some loose bone fragments too.

All in all, it went well.

I'm on crutches for a week or two, back to the surgeon after that for a review and next steps.

Fingers crossed I can be back on the trails sooner rather than later.
